Yesterday I told you guys about my own newborn necessities, which have become totally imperative to life with two kids. But there was one thing I left off of my list, partly because I was saving it for it’s very own special post.
For breastfeeding mamas, a fantastic breast pump is an absolute necessity. And where breast pumps are concerned, Medela is the best.
I know that they’re famous for being one of the top recommended pumps by doctors (or maybe that’s only true in my neck of the woods?) but there’s one other thing that I adore about Medela: they have a conscious heart.
Their recycling program, Medela Recycles, is an ideal set up for moms that are done with their pump. You can easily turn in your old pump with a free, pre-paid postage label that ships your used pump back to the Medela offices. They’ll then make sure that it’s properly recycled. It’s an eco friendly way to dispose of your old nursing companion – but there’s more.
As part of the campaign, Medela will donate two brand new Symphony Preemie+ Breastpumps and breastfeeding supplies to Ronald McDonald House Charities across the country in exchange for the pumps they receive through the recycling program. The end goal is to provide NICU mothers with the same high-quality equipment they use at the hospital during their stay at a Ronald McDonald House.
As a mom who has experienced newborn trauma, I have to say that this is amazing. At an imperative time, Medela makes the life of these new parents just a smidge easier. It tugs at your heartstrings, and all you have to do to support the program is donate your old pump when the time is right.
The inspiration for the program came from a concerned, eco-conscious mom who started a petition on change.org calling on Medela to implement a recycling program to prevent used breastpumps from landing in landfills. This story is a true testament to how one voice really can change someone else’s world!
To date, there have been over 1,500 pumps recycled through the program as Medela strives to meet a goal of 12,000 recycled pumps this year.
And now, for the exciting news: for moms beginning their own breastfeeding journey, Medela is giving away one Freestyle double electric pump. Just fill out the form below to be automatically entered!
I am so grateful to Medela for all of the work they do to empower breastfeeding moms, and new parents in general!
I definitely plan to breastfeed!
