…Continued from How I Became Mrs. Galster: Chapter Eleven…
It was the start to an amazing weekend that led to an exciting couple of months!
The next day I was up at six am. I was so excited to go down and pick up the pup that I just didn’t know what to do with myself – so I went for a walk. I did some laundry. Finally, Ricky said we could just leave early and stop for breakfast on our two hour drive to pick up our new little addition.
Lucy was born on a pig farm in Minnesota. Those two hours of driving to get her seemed to take about five times that long. When we finally pulled into that dirt driveway I was elated. I can honestly say that I’ve never been more excited to see a pig farm in my life!
We walked in to pick up our little beanie puppy and I couldn’t believe how much she had grown. She was such a little chunk of a puppy. It was weird to drive away from the farm – one of those “what do we do now?” moments. Baby Lucy slept the entire way to my mom and dad’s house. I actually made a little bed for her at my feet (the passenger side of the car) and she snuggled right in.
We got to my parents house and let her run around in the yard – except she didn’t do much running. She was a clumsy little thing that really didn’t want to move around, she wanted to sleep! She kept trying to find a little cave to crawl into and somehow ended up trying to get under the wheel well of my dad’s trailer. Ohhhh puppy.
When we finally got her home that night – after stopping at both of our parent’s houses to show off our pudgey little puppy – it really felt odd. For the second time that day, I didn’t know what to do with myself. We had been waiting and wishing and talking about the day when we’d finally bring this little pooch home. It was surreal that she was actually there.
We finally started to settle in over the rest of that weekend. Lucy started adjusting to her new surroundings and we started to adjust to being puppy parents.
Even though we were so caught up with our little family, I was still thinking about the engagement ring all.weekend.long. I knew it was coming soon, I just didn’t know when. I figured it would happen on Monday – which gave me a serious case of the butterflies. It was the first time in a long time that I was actually looking forward to going to work the next day.
And new puppy and an impending engagement. I had a lot to be excited for!
